  • Is determined by a mathematical calculation
  • Can be determined by an on-line worksheet
  •  Deviations as approved with good cause by a Judge

Child support is a mathematical calculation created and adjusted by the State of Oregon under the Oregon Administrative Rules.  This on-line calculator computes the reasonable amount of child support based on the same fundamental factors for every Oregon family.  There are provisions in the law that allow changes or deviations to these calculations but the judges generally want to hear a very good reason why a family does not fit the expected standard set out in the guideline calculation. Stephanie will work with you to determine whether a deviation request is appropriate and will be looked on favorably by the court and work with you to devise a course of action based on your information and goals.

In most cases, one of the parents will be ordered to pay the other parent child support. Oregon has child support guidelines and worksheets/calculations which specify the amount of support that should be paid based on a number of factors including, but not limited to, the incomes of the parents, the parenting time schedule, whether there are non joint children, and daycare and medical insurance costs.

Even though child support is generally determined using strict guidelines based on income, child care costs, parenting time and medical insurance, the guidelines can only be fairly applied if you know all of the relevant facts.  This includes situations where one or both of the parties are self-employed which makes the basis calculation of income a tricky and detailed process best handled by experts like Stephanie and her staff.
